Choose Your Career Path . . .

There are 16 Career Clusters in the National Career Clusters Framework, representing more than 79 Career Pathways to help students navigate their way to greater success in college and career!  With so many options to consider, where do you start?

First, take a career assessment at your school, to help narrow down the choices that could be a great fit for you.  Then start learning about those careers.  What are the opportunities? The work environments?

Next, look at what kind of training you need to prepare for that career.  Some positions offer on-the-job training.  Others require some type of industry credential. Still others may require a post-secondary certificate or degree.  What training do you need to get the career you want?

Education Career Pathway – Become a Teacher!

Get started in high school with these courses as an introduction to teaching!

1) Earn elective credit at your high school, AND

2) Earn college transcript credit in the field of Education.

3) Join a student organization to practice skills you need to be a teacher.

4) Do observations at middle schools to observe/shadow teachers in their workplace.

5) Earn Industry credentials in CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens (required for teachers).

6) Develop a portfolio showcasing your experiences and skills to use in applying to university and later, applying for a teaching job.

7) Earn additional elective course credit taking Education Workplace Experience Course in Senior year.

Work Interests of Educators:

Social
Social occupations frequently involve working with, communicating with, and teaching people.  These occupations often involve helping or providing service to others.

Investigative
Investigative occupations frequently involve working with ideas, and require an extensive amount of thinking.  These occupations can involve searching for facts and figuring out problems mentally.

Artistic
Artistic occupations frequently involve working with forms, designs and patterns.  They often require self-expression and the work can be done without following a clear set of rules.

Enterprising
Enterprising occupations frequently involve starting up and carrying out projects.  These occupations can involve leading people and making many decisions.  Sometimes they require risk taking and often deal with business.

Realistic
Realistic occupations frequently involve work activities that include practical, hands-on problems and solutions.  They often deal with plants, animals, and real-world materials like wood, tools, and machinery.  Many of the occupations require working outside and do not involve a lot of paperwork or working closely with others.
