Here is an update on the Illinois CTE teacher licensing rules. Changes in Illinois requirements were passed, then later repealed, so here is the most current information available:

ELS (CTE) Educator License with Stipulations for CTE
May teach CTE grades 9 – 12
Needs 60 hours of college credit from accredited College/University AND 2,000 paid work hours in field related to teaching assignment
Renewal – Repeating 5 year cycle
Must have 120 hours PD AND pass Basic Skills Test
ISBE Form 80-04-req-renew-els-provisional-educator
ELS (CTE-P) Educator License with Stipulations – for CTE – Provisional
May teach CTE only grades 11 & 12
If no 60 hours of college credit must have 8,000 hours of paid work experience in field related to teaching assignment
May renew only one time, 5 years after licensing, and during that time must pass Test of Basic Skills and complete 30 hours of college credit – in the content area they are teaching and/or education coursework
